Professor Marc-André Anzueto (UQO) and Stéfan Dyck, lawyer at Lapointe Légal, have co-authored the article “Mapping Canadian security aid with transnational human rights NGOs in Colombia (2003-2023)” in the scientific journal Conflict, Security & Development.
Focusing on the case of the international cooperation organization Avocats sans Frontières Canada (ASFC), the authors examine the strategic uses and interpretations of human rights language by different Canadian actors involved in Colombia through the lens of “security aid” over a two-decade period.
In this article, the authors also explore how human rights NGOs and Canadian governments address the contradictory nature of Canadian diplomacy regarding extractivism-related issues.
