On Friday, October 12, a roundtable on fieldwork experiences was held at UQAM.
This activity was part of the monthly meetings “ERIGAL Fridays”, which take place on the second Friday of each month.
On this occasion, ERIGAL master’s and PhD students discussed their fieldwork experiences based on three main themes:
Motivation: What was the purpose or interest of conducting fieldwork for your research?
• Strategy + Practice: What strategies did you develop during your fieldwork? How did you organize the practical aspects (funding, local university hosting, etc.)?
• Ethics and emotions: What ethical challenges or obstacles did you face during your fieldwork, and how did you deal with them? What emotional challenges did you encounter, and how did you manage them?
The session was moderated by Professors Anne Marie Veillette (UQAM) and Nora Nagels (UQAM), who also shared experiences from their own recent fieldwork.
It was a moment for reflection, exchange, and mutual learning from others’ challenges and strategies.
Participating students:
• Roman Perdomo (PhD Candidate, UdeM) – fieldwork : São Paulo (Brésil) and Lima (Pérou)
• Julia Islas (PhD Candidate, UdeM) – fieldwork : Ciudad de México (Mexico)
• Eduardo Monteiro (PhD Candidate, UQAM) – fieldwork : Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)
• Martin Bertolotti (PhD Candidate, UQAM) – fieldwork : Buenos Aires (Argentina)
• Romain Roche (Master’s student, UdeM) – fieldwork : Recife (Brazil)
Many thanks to everyone for participating!
