Workshop: Artificial Intelligence in Social Sciences

As part of “ÉRIGAL Fridays”, we are pleased to invite you to the Workshop: Artificial Intelligence in Social Sciences.

The event will begin with a lunch-debate where participants will share their experiences and uses of artificial intelligence in general, and generative AI in particular. After a short break, the workshop will continue with practical exercises on how to use generative AI in social science research.

The workshop will be led by members of the UQAM Committee on Artificial Intelligence Literacy (CLIA) and will follow this program:

1:00 – 2:00 PM | Lunch-Debate

  • Critical discussion on the use of generative AI in social sciences: guidelines and frameworks.

  • Sharing experiences of AI usage in research.

  • Analysis of ethical challenges and privacy concerns related to AI.

2:00 – 2:15 PM | Break

2:15 – 4:00 PM | Practical Workshop

  1. Presentation

    • Definition of artificial intelligence, main technologies (generative AI, RAG, etc.) and associated vocabulary (LLM, tokens, parameters, etc.).

    • Overview of key challenges and available tools.

  2. Practical Exercises

    • Writing and prompt engineering exercises with generative AI (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.).
