Yesterday, we held the "Workshop: Drafting Chapters" at McGill University as part of ÉRIGAL Fridays. During this workshop, we had the opportunity to work on two draft chapters written by two ERIGAL professors
We first discussed the draft titled The issues of the public sphere, which is part of the book The challenges of building a democratic public sphere in Veracruz (Mexico) by professor Julian Durazo-Herrmann (UQAM). We then worked on the introduction to the book Between evidence and imagination: the politics of art in Mexico by professor Tania Islas Weinstein (McGill). Both authors also shared insights about their writing processes.
The workshop allowed the author.e.s to receive constructive feedback that will help them clarify certain points and enrich their work with a greater diversity of perspectives. It also offered the audience — made up mostly of students — the chance to engage with a work in progress, share their observations, and delve into the genesis of an academic project.
At ÉRIGAL, we wanted our student community to take part in the stages of constructing a text, since spaces like this are not common and, generally, discussions focus on already published works, without showing the behind-the-scenes process.
Thank you to all participant.e.s!
