Jacinto Cuvi
Associate Professor / Lecturer in Sociology and Development Studies at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB)
I obtained my PhD in Sociology in 2017 from the University of Texas at Austin, with a dissertation titled *"Selling the City: Trade, Planning, and Politics on the Streets of São Paulo."* I have been the Director of the Center for the Study of International Cooperation and Development (CECID) at the Université libre de Bruxelles since March 2022.
For several years, I have conducted qualitative research on informal economies, particularly street trade, and I study the dynamics between informal workers and the state. I am also interested in the personalization of bureaucratic power. My research focuses on Latin America — especially Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, and Argentina — though I have also published work on Vietnam. I teach courses on development and the sociology of globalization at ULB.
