Jonas Lefebvre

PhD in Political Science

I obtained my PhD in Political Science from the Université de Montréal in 2026. My dissertation examines the long-term effects of citizen participation mechanisms on the groups and individuals who have remained durably involved in them. It draws on qualitative fieldwork conducted in Porto Alegre, Brazil. More recently, my research has focused on the representation of urban peripheries in Latin America in a context of democratic erosion.

I am also a member of the Canada Research Chair in Participation and Citizenship(s) and an associate researcher at the AmericaS Centre at the Université Libre de Bruxelles.
