Julian Durazo-Herrmann
Full Professor in the Department of Political Science at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM)
I obtained my PhD in Political Science from McGill University (Montreal) in 2006. I have been a professor at the Université du Québec à Montréal since June 2007.
My research lies in the field of comparative politics, the study of democracy in Latin America, and more specifically, the construction of the public sphere at the subnational level in Brazil and Mexico. My recent work shows that local media systems have distinct political dynamics from those at the national level, but that they pose significant challenges to the realization of social pluralism and access to diverse and independent sources of information.
My teaching activities focus primarily on introductions to political science, political systems in Latin America, and theories of comparative politics.
