Master’s Student in Political Science

paula.paulusha.salcedo.luciano@umontreal.ca

I hold a bachelor’s degree in political science from the Université de Montréal. Currently a master’s candidate in political science at the same institution, I am writing my thesis under the supervision of Danielle Coenga-Oliveira. My research focuses on the situation of Dominican-Haitian people in the Dominican Republic. More specifically, I analyze the consequences of the 2013 ruling of the Dominican Supreme Court, which stripped thousands of people born to parents with irregular migration status of their citizenship, thus plunging them into statelessness. The aim of my thesis is to contribute to a better understanding of systemic discrimination and exclusionary practices rooted in colonial logics, while also enriching the Francophone literature on this subject.

Alongside my studies, I work at the Ministry of Immigration, Francisation and Integration. I am attached to the Directorate of Policies and Programs for the Integration of Immigrants, with a particular focus on refugees and asylum seekers in Quebec. I also served for two years as president of the Committee of Racialized Students in Political Science and International Studies at the Université de Montréal. In addition, I have gained significant experience in various programs supporting refugees, notably within PRAIDA and PROMIS.
