Romain Roche
Master's degree student in political science
I have been a student at the Université de Montréal since 2019. Having graduated with a BA in International Studies in 2022, I am currently a master's student in the Department of Political Science, under the supervision of Françoise Montambeault. My research aims to study, via the prism of the commons, how occupation as a collective action of social movements enables a redefinition of citizenship regimes. My case study is the Ocupe Estelita Movement, which led an occupation in Recife, Brazil, in 2014. I was able to spend time in the field in the fall of 2024, thanks to the support of the FRQ.
Outside of my research, I'm actively involved in various progressive political organizations in Quebec. I'm also music director at CISM89,3, the Université de Montréal's campus radio station.
