Scout Meredith Best is a master’s student at McGill University. She holds a bachelor’s degree in International Studies with minors in French and Latin American, Latinx, and Caribbean Studies from Dickinson College, where she graduated magna cum laude and with departmental honors.

Her research focuses on the political violence and human rights abuses that took place during the dictatorships in the Southern Cone during the 1970s and 1980s and explores the lessons that the “return to democracy” can have for contemporary issues in Latin America. She is particularly interested in grassroot activism and how profound political and social change can be implemented through protests, resistance, and artistic expression.
