Our Theoretical Approach

The ÉRIGAL research program is part of the ongoing reflections on the notion of citizenship regimes and its grounding in critical and feminist approaches. Far from being a fixed framework, this notion is defined as a set of shifting boundaries, constructed through everyday practices and the relationships between citizens and between these latter and the state. By mobilizing situated, historicized, and comparative perspectives, and by focusing on the practices of citizenship, our work renews ways of thinking about citizenship in Latin America. Our methodological approaches draw on both qualitative and comparative methods in political science, as well as perspectives from sociology, anthropology, and urban studies.

Inclusion of Students

The team offers a rich research and training environment for its members:

  • Summer school in Montreal and/or in Latin America
  • Annual methodological workshops (publications, action research, ethnography, research-creation)
  • Regular seminars
  • Research grants
