Under the supervision of Professor Nora Nagels, and as part of my concentration in International Politics at UQAM, I am working on a research project titled L’anglais, une langue qui ouvre des portes ? Impérialisme linguistique et hiérarchies glottopolitiques dans la politique éducative péruvienne (English, a language that opens doors? Linguistic imperialism and glottopolitical hierarchies in Peruvian education policy). I studied Foreign Language Education at the National University of Education in Peru, and later Political Science at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. These were fundamental experiences that shaped my interest in the political side of education. Following that spark, I took courses in development studies at the University of Giessen, the Universidad del Rosario and the Université de Montréal.
My research gravitates toward glottopolitics. As a former EFL teacher, and as someone who grew up in a semi-rural environment where Quechua was predominant, I am deeply fascinated by the power dynamics of language teaching and learning. These dynamics reveal even thicker layers in Indigenous communities, where resistance against linguistic imperialism takes many forms.
